For those of you out there who love your sport it simply doesn’t get any better then the dramatic 4 days of the Ryder cup, I mentioned in my last blog that it was now one of the premier sporting events. Well, after the drama played out at Celtic Manor I would now put it top of the pile. This event quite simply had it all and in these days of win at all costs it was heartening to see great camaraderie between the teams.I have never been a fan of Colin Montgomerie but there is no doubt when it comes to the Ryder Cup he is a different animal, gone is the normal agitated Grumpy old man who stomps around the course like a bear with a sore head and instead he transforms himself into a warm outgoing charismatic natural born leader !
Everyone in the team contributed but I must give special praise to Westwood, Poulter, Donald and of course Graham McDowell who became the hero after clinching the final match. It has been a great year for McDowell who captured his first Major at the US Open in June and he is now favourite for the converted BBC sports personality of the year.
All we need now is Lee Westwood to overtake Tiger Woods as world no 1 to cap a fantastic year for European golf. I am already counting the days until we defend the cup at the fantastic Medina Course in Illinois, surely under another inspirational captain in Jose Maria Olazabal. Role on 2012!!
