It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we inform you of the death of JGBM founder John George Snr, who passed away last week after a brief illness, aged 88. John Snr. leaves behind his wife Micheline, and children Kathy, John Jnr., and Mike.
John Snr. founded JGBM in 1977, originally as sole UK distributor for Japanese typewriter firm Silver Reed. Kathy was the first employee, in a secretarial role, prior to running her own chiropody business, with Micheline also involved in the business. John Jnr. joined the company in 1981, followed by Mike a year later, and they took over the family business when John Snr. retired in 1999.
Since then, John Jnr. and Mike have grown JGBM further and the company continues to be a highly successful business – certainly one that John Snr. was very proud of. He still received a copy of the monthly management accounts just to “keep an eye” on the business he had started.
John Snr previously commented, “The company puts its success down to good dealer relationships, a thorough understanding of the marketplace and a comprehensive knowledge of its products.” This philosophy remains at the core of JGBM to this day.
